Default Just bought a mustang 2 hours ago, now what?

I know this is a total newb question but I haven't owned a mustang since the 90's so I'm in the dark about what's availible in the aftermarket these days. It's a 2012 GT 6 speed.

What's the first thing you guys usually do besides adding the obligatory CAI? Also, what's the rear end ratio? With six gears I can afford to put a 3.73 or 4.10 in if it's not close to that now.

Gratz and welcome.

I would suggest that keep it stock until it reaches around 5000 miles. During the time you can get used to driving the car. And you will really feel the different before and after adding mods on..

The ratio out back (if stock) is 3.31, although because of these transmissions, compared to the past generation, the final drive ratio is higher than it would've been before with 3.73s. I'd say hold off on gears.

I'd definitely suggest a tune with a CAI, that's where all the fun is at. Best bang for your buck power that there is!

Agree with Rainson. Once you get used to it I'd do an exhaust mod after CAI/tune.

Thanks for the help. I plan on adding cams, headers, full exhaust, and a blower down the road so should I hold off on getting a tune, or just enjoy the added power now?

A set of cams for this thing is way more than what I expected! I'm used to just a couple hundred for a GM cam.

I'd suggest a CAI and Tuner combo from American Muscle or Breenspeed. The tune is where most of the power will come from. If you do get a CAI/tuner combo from AM you get tunes for life, meaning anytime to add a mod they will write you up updated tunes for your car.

Edit: Once you get all the mods you have planned done, thats when you should do a dyno tune. Thats my .02 cents though.

It's worth it to grab a CAI and tuner now. Then when it comes to tuning down the road (you're going to need it if you grab steeper gears to correct the speedo), you'll be able to adjust parameters accordingly.

Congrats and welcome back to the mustang world!

I bought a few JLT catch cans early on to keep the oil from blowing back into the throttle body.

Cams and full exhaust cost a ton! (Well worth it though) For my 2008 cams were about 750 bucks, 800 for the exhaust, and 350 for the xpipe. That is not counting doing headers or the installation.

Some cool dragon stickers? No? lol

Like the others stated, chill and enjoy the car for a month or two, then start the upgrades.
