I had a close call today on my way to work. I was merging onto I-385 this morning and was accelerating rapidly down the on-ramp, but had to slow down to merge with the first lane. I then proceeded to merge into lane 2 starting to make another acceleration burst and noticed a sheriff behind me in lane 2. I let off the gas and noticed that I was only going 4 MPH over the speed limit and immediately hit the cruise control. He slowly came up behind me and then moved over to the right lane and slowly came up beside me. I looked over and he gave me the "cool car" head nod, I returned the head nod with a smile.
If I didn't have to slow down to merge on the interstate, I would have been going at least 15-20 MPH over the speed limit.

I live really close to a state trooper office. One of my neighbors, a state trooper, has a z06 that he babies. His garage is covered with corvette stuff. I usually see a lot of state troopers at gas stations filling... I was checking out a state troopers car the one day thinking "I don't understand how they sit in a car all day with all that **** on their belts..." when I realized the cop filling up was checking out my car too. As I pulled out of the gas station, he finished filling up and watched me go my way.
I always treat cops with the utmost respect, just in the same manner I would treat one of our soldiers. They're the people who help keep us safe. Whenever I get pulled over, I always put my 4ways on, roll down all my windows, put my keys up on my dash where the cop can see them, and leave my hands on the steering wheel... always try to be as polite as I can be and cooperate. I've yet to get a ticket (knock on wood).
I got pulled over a few months ago, in my mustang, on a Friday night, on a back road for "dipsy doing" and "throwing a cig butt out my window"... when I told the officer I don't smoke, he quickly informed me that "something must have fallen off my car..." and told me to pay better attention to where I was driving. He then walked back to his car and peeled out, speeding away on his way... guess he was expecting some high school punk.
Cops are usually cool - just don't stupid things...

This thread is full of jinx. Just got pulled over today for 80 in a 65, not even my V1 could save me as I was coming over the top of the bridge and he lasered me from 2000'.
First speeding ticket (That I couldn't talk my way out of) in my 8 years of driving.
The cop (NYS Trooper) was very nice though, he even mentioned how I should go about fighting the ticket to get it reduced to a parking fine.

DSargent, I'm sorry if I came off like an ***, and I'm sorry for insulting you. 70 in a 55 is not all that bad. If the cop's story is that inconsistent, I hope you win. Sounds like a guy with a chip on his shoulder.
