I just don't see it(the issue, personally). I want the higher RPMs, the extra torque from 3.73 to 4.10s is admittedly, useless without beefier tires to grip in the lower gears, but I can throw into 3rd at that speed and leave people I couldn't otherwise. To me it only becomes truly detrimental (TR-3650 in my case) were I to be FI using a MT, or couldn't stand 2200 RPMs in O/D now at 50, and the 2550 its at for 70mph driving.

Well, I'll tell you what. Sell/give me some tires with a bit of grip and I'll see if I agree with you. Sitting on either 245s or 255s right now, I forget.

I would go with the 3.73. A friend of mine dropped .3 to .4 off of his ET in his 3.8 so I would say it would be around that or a little better. He went for 3.27 to 3.73

As for the Auto, its a much better setup for dragging if it set up right, I know a guy that could literally leave a solid black tire streak while launching and shifting in a manual. Still it cant compete with a auto set right.

Like others have said, if they are right they are more consistant and faster period.

Not to say I love my manual. Its just more fun to shift gears

Not to hijack the thread, but would it be worth it to go from 3.55s to 3.73s?

Its what Im doing and everyone I've talked to that had 3.55s previously said its a noticeable and greater difference. Not one person said it was not worth it to go from 3.55 to 3.73. They all say they had wished they did it earlier. Im excited to get mine in. Coming from AM hopefully sometime next week.

I know a guy who has a set of 3.73s in his mustang(fully built/saleen supercharged s197 making mid 500s to the wheel). He wants to go back to 3.55s so I'm gonna see if I can trade him my OEM 3.55s for his 3.73s. I want to drop down to 3.73s from the 4.10s I have currently.

What happened to "don't fear the gear"? LOL I'm glad I never went to 4.10s...

I went 3.73 and am glad I did!
Honestly 3.73's are a little jumpy at times in everyday driving situations. When i put on my summer tires with a 295/45/18 on the rears, my effective gear dropped to about 3.55+ which with my a/t is perfect imo.
Guys with the 4.10 that think its too low migh try a taller tire in the rear to absorb some of the gearing, it helps believe me.
Proper gearing is the balance between power and grip to me.
What's why guys that stay n/a love the 4.10's. At that hp 410's give you the ability to break loose with throttle control...so will the 3.73's with another 150hp as well
Everyone want's to "get to the powerband" faster and get 4.10's.
Well here's my question, don't you want to stay in it longer? Particularly when you are making peak hp??
Gear's get you there quicker, but also get you out quicker as well...something to consider with high power (sc) platforms.
