hello i have an 05 gt and when i bought the car it came with a hurst shifter it gets loose all the time and i always have to end up taking it to the mechanic to tighten since i dont know what tool i need to do it myself he obv doesnt charge me but its a pain.

Anyway i wanted to ask what tool do i need to tighten and also is there anything i can do to prevent it from getting loose every couple weeks?

Only thing I can think of would be to throw some thread locker (loc-tite) on the bolt before you tighten it down to keep it from unthreading itself.

The loctite should help a lot. Might want to try a nylon lock nut if that doesn't work. If clearance isn't an issue (I've never seen the exact bolt or fitting youre talking about) you could double nut it.

Definitely blue loctite. That's the hot ticket!

Also, while they have it apart, it would be a good idea to drop some Break Free or a similar gun lubricant product on top of the ball joint of the shifter. You can search "Hurst Shifter Rattle" on these forums and find info on that. I did it to my shifter, and all rattle problems stopped. Very easy solution.

Watch out not to drop any loctite down into the shifter itself, I tried fixing the bolts on mine that way where the handle connects, ran down in the ball part and made shifting hell for a bit. I love the look but I hate the shifter itself, they are junk.

Mine still rattles, I just gave up on it. For the 200 dollars my girl gave for it, it should have been right and it definitly wasnt

i never drove a mustang without the hurst shifter so i dont know witch is smoother/better. Im not the biggest fan mine rattles and becomes loose ALL THE TIME AND IT ANNOYS THE **** OUT OF ME. But when your punching the gas and u want quick shifts it does its job
