Default Accel Super Coils Advice?

I just spoke with JAred at AM and got the Airaid and Bama tune combo and a set of these super coils.

he said that the coils will add power (slight) but i will also see 3+ MPG in fuel economy using the street tune.

3+ mpg is huge over the course of 50K miles. so my question is for the people who have them...

are you seeing this improved fuel economy? and are there any "seat of your pants" differences?

thanks....it was those or the BOSS intake manifold, and since i dont regularly drive in the high 5500-7500s i went with the super coils.

opinions?

I don't want to talk bad about a vendor, but no coils are going to give you 3+ mpg and aftermarket coils are typically more trouble than they are worth.

I have the Accel coils, but I installed them at the same time as the supercharger, so I can't tell you per say how much HP they added. I did read an article some time ago in either Muscle Mustang or 5.0/Fast Fords were they added the GMS coils (basically the same as the Accel) & did pick up some power (along with a tune).

Search "coil failure" or "COP failure" on this forum. The failure rate for aftermarket coils is far higher than the OEM units. I've already been through the nightmare with Granatelli's coils, and many others have as well. Yes, they did improve spark... Until they started failing one by one.

I agree. Not the same as a mustang, but I had accel and msd coils on my Pontiac gtp. Neither of them worked well at all. It would start to break up in high rpm. Got a set of new OEM coils and it ran perfect. I'd stay with factory. I'll never change coils again.

You've been duped. Aftermarket coils have been known to have a high failure rate as compared to the OE COPs. Also, that slight power improvement is if you're FI. You won't get squat if you're NA. But the part that bugs me the most is that you were told about fuel mileage improvement. If that was the case, everybody and their mother would be running them.

Jared needs a good rap across the back of the head.

Accel could not make a decent coil if their lives depended on it!

Save your money! Not worth it. 98% marketing 2% function.

They tout mpg claims because its such a subjective measure car to car. And because dynos dont back up the power claims due to the tiny margins.
