Helped a neighbor replace the top on his 02 Stang... said the shops wanted $800... figured, how hard can it actually be??? Took both of us 13 friggin hours (I crapped out at 12 hrs) to get that damn thing on.. No way one person could do it, this year of Stang took 2 people...

I was looking at doing the top on my 06, and the job looked so difficult I decided I would buy the best vinyl top available to give myself the best chance at success.

Hey Guys. I know this thread is a little old, but I just stumbled onto it.

How did you do with your DIY installation? I install convertible top covers for a living. The installation of the S197 is quite difficult even for a professional (unless he/she gets to do large numbers).

I would not think it a good idea to start the job on a weekend if you need to use the car for your transportation on Monday.

Just wondering how you did on it?

I think this is a job best left to a professional, but that's just me.

gentlemen,

I have a question on convertible tops. do any of you have a pic of your top down? I just picked up an 07 convertible and I don't think the top is fully retracting.

Is the top brand new, or barley used?

When mine was replaced it did this, but then the more and more I used it, it settled down and went down all the way.

Some top down pics

when I get it out of storage I will take a better look at it. is there anybody who makes a nice cover for it? I want to put a bar in too. For lack of a better word a Roll bar.

Actually, you are probably talking about a style bar or light bar.
As for a cover, there are some really cool hard-shell covers that basically turn it into a 2-seater. Cuts a lot of the wind buffeting and looks great.
Search for "'07 Mustang Tonneau Cover" and you will find some.
American Muscle sells this one and it comes in black, which would save painting.http://www.americanmuscle.com/3dcarb...=GT&adtype=pla

Also on eBay, you will find some cheaper ones. http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_trks...at=0&_from=R40

I like the idea of the 2-piece you can stash in the trunk easily.
