^^ Traction plays a huge role in the GT500.. It's very hard to hook on stock tires with all that low end torque.. That being said, roll to roll or highway driving the GT500 feels a lot faster..

Another one of these threads huh? :P

Obviously everyone in this thread is biased. Some have GT500's, others 5.0's. If you are the few that have driven both, you have a true say, other than the rest of us that have looked on paper (or monitors) to see the numbers. If you aren't looking to modify it from the day you buy it and you want to keep it exactly how it is, obviously the GT500 wins 9/10 times because it screams and has more power. But if you want to modify it, the 5.0 wins hands down even with just the difference in price as stated before.

How does the 5.0 win hands down? The block is already built in the GT500... Modifying it is as simple as the termis.. pulley, tune, etc.. A GT500 can be found for under 30K, I've even some go for 27K..

IMO it's hands down. Not much comparison but I've driven my brothers '07 V6 and the current '12 GT I have and the suspension feels much improved. I'd love to drive a GT500 to feel the difference but I have not.

Maybe it's just California but a quick CL check and the cheapest I've seen is $37k ( http://sfbay.craigslist.org/eby/cto/3264828340.html ). I bought my car for $26k OTD for a bare 5.0 6MT. There's a lot you can do with $11k. What you're mostly buying with a GT500 is the Shelby name and while it is cool, I'd rather make my own for cheaper and it's a newer car.

Are you really going to compare the 07 V6 suspension to the GT500?

It's not just a name, it's bigger engine that is also forged, already supercharged, suspension and brake goodies, better transmission (IMO), plus some.. To each their own though.. I do like the new body a lot more

Don't let the sheep fool you, all that HP in the GT500 comes at a steep price, money and weight.

Motor Trend numbers:

08 GT 500 - 12.6 sec @ 114.2 mph - Base price 44k
2013 GT - 12.7 sec @ 111.1 mph - Base price 35k
2012 Boss - 12.3 sec @ 115.8 mph - Base price 41k
2011 GT - 12.8 sec @ 110.8 mph Base price 30k
2011 GT 500 - 12.6

Car and Driver lap times.

2006 GT 500 - 3:11.0
2007 GT 500 - 3:07.4
2007 GT 500 - 3:05.7
2011 GT 500 - 3:04.0
2011 Mustang V6 - 3:12.5
2010 Mustang GT -3:13.3
2011 Mustang GT - 3:08.6

You pay an enormous premium for just marginal improvement in performance. With a few grand worth of parts a 2011 GT will out lap a 2011 GT 500.

From KBB without mileage:
2011 GT 500 is worth 44k
2011 GT is worth 28k

What you get for 16k?
4 seconds faster around a track and .02 seconds faster at the drag strip..

Your friend would be wise to buy a 2011 GT...

Funny, MotorTrend says a 2008 Ford Shelby GT500 is worth an average of $33,921, while a base 2013 Ford Mustang GT is worth $31,095.

So for a couple grand more, you get a supercharged, forged motor and a better platform for building off of that is faster than a brand new, non-forged, non-supercharged, stock engine. If you're going to make comparisons, at the very least use the two cars the OP mentioned in the title of the post.

you can get a 2011 5.0 for 25k or less now which gives you about 8k below gt500 price while being 3-4 years newer
