Default Test drove a 2013 v6 today

Drove it just to see what all the fuss is about in the new 3.7. Considered trading up for the extra power and mileage/warranty. I was honestly a little underwhelmed by the performance. Yea it was faster than my 4.0.. But it didnt feel faster. Does that make sense? I guess it is so refined that it just glides up to 60, and dosnt seem to have as much punch as my bama tuned 4.0. I think it has something to do with the gearing, so it may be something that could be fixed more to my taste. Possibly a tune or gears? Anyhow, has anyone had a similar experience? Or possibly the opposite? The car is of way better quality than my 08, but I'm just conflicted on wether or not it is worth the upgrade.

sounds like you could use a v8.

you'd know if you wanted to make the jump after driving one, are you really going to go out and buy one if someone posts something convincing here? : P

Not quite the same, but I was a 1993 2.3l driver for like 8 years and 100k miles. I also had the 4.0l in my 2004 ranger. Both vehicles served their purpose, but there was absolutely no question that the next Mustang I would order would have 8 cylinders. There is no replacement for displacement. The 3.7 is still a very cool engine!

Depends haha. If it is a gearing issue that takes the low end grunt away to save some gas mileage, then I could possibly be convinced. I'm just curious to know if this is a common reaction to the 3.7. I mean I know that it is faster than my 4.0., but driving it did not feel that way. Probably the 2.73 gears in the 2013..

Dont do it...all the work in your current ride, you're going to miss it. If you are going to trade, go with the v8. Sounds like you have a case of the car buy fever setting in....

I agree with everything else that has been said here. Sounds like you are biased towards the car that you already have. Go with the v8 or keep the project that you already have.

I had the same experience comparing my modded '08 GT to a new 2011 5.0. Sure, I knew it was faster, but it didn't feel any quicker (and it had the 3.73 gears!). It was smoother, but then I have cams and HD motor mounts. The 5.0 stock probably had ~ 25 HP advantage but is also 200 lbs heavier.

In the end, I couldn't justify "upgrading" to the new model (especially with that rear end!). I am glad that I didn't get the 5.0 as now I only have 6 more payments on the '08 and it's mine!

I felt the same when I test drove a few different 3.7s. I'm pretty sure its the gearing. My 4.0 isn't tuned, but it still feels like it has more torque than the 3.7. The 3.7 is a great car, but I don't see it as a worthwhile trade from a 4.0. Go V8 or just keep the 4.0, IMO.

I agree. Everyone here brought up a good point. Sounds like you're already happy with what you have. I also am happy with my car, and at one point even considered a 5.0. However, after careful consideration, I realized the only upgrade that makes sense for where I'm at mustang wise, would be a GT500.

You should consider looking into a V8 though, I just can't see owning a V6 mustang after owning two V8s hahaha 05+ models are fairly cheap!
