Default Question about tuning, headers, and passing inspection in TX

Having Lt's with and O/R x pipe installed tomorrow along with the required tune from Bama. Come November when my car needs inspection all I need to do is return it to stock so the rear O2's are on and use non fouler fittings to pass right? I did a search for this question but all the cars in question were 3v and older flavors.

From everything that I have read no personal experience as long as there is no visual inspection some people have been able to get it tuned so it will pass inspection.

No one ever checks here. I worked in shops throughout college and never saw it. Just wondering about the tune. The last car I had all I did was replace the rear O2's with sims and everything was dandy.

Just in case someone searches this subject in the future you can get it to pass with an off-road x-pipe if they don't do a visual but you have to use some elbow bend O2 relocators.

If you have a catted x-pipe the consensous I got from the multiple shops I talked to is that you just need to go back to stock tune and let the car cycle for a couple days and stay out of the gas.

You also have a 12 in Texas doesn't it take 3 years before you have to do a emissions test I thought that was how it was when I lived there.

Depends on the county you're in, I think. If it's a smog check county, then they'll put a probe in the exhaust tip.

Actually, "smog" counties use the OBD port to check for codes. They are supposed to do a visual inspection. Funny thing, my '08 would not pass with a CAI and tune. But did just fine after I installed the blower. You'd better check your local area before you do something like this. By the way, it's two years to do inspections on new cars.

The time interval between sniff tests varies from state to state. Last I know about Georgia, they never have any vehicle inspections.
Texas is every single year for car inspections. If you live in an EPA designated Non-attainment county, you must do the sniff test every year. The only exception is brand new cars can go 2 years w/o being inspected. After that, you have to go every year

You should be be fine. I have taken my car to three places so far and not one has ran diagnostics...maybe its because the car is fairly new. But I do run Bassani catted-x and show no codes on a 91 tune. My cats are tiny so technically I could get hit for those as if it were off road x-pipe.
BSmoke had a set up like your and he passed, you should send him a PM.
On a side note on my '03 Impala they ran a scan and only checked for thrown codes. Had to change a gas-cap for that one before it passed.
