Default How difficult to replace brake pads?

So...need to replace front pads. Simple job? Calipars come off with standard bolt or allen? Haven't looked at them yet. Gonna take a look this weekend. Haven't done a brake job since my 92' GT...

The fronts are very simple with basic tools. The rears need a special caliper compressor, but aren't that hard either.

Its fairly simple, no special tools required for the rear. I used c clamps for the rear.

It's been a while but the rear is more than just a clamp. You have to push and turn it. I bought the $40 kit from amazon to remove them.

^+1. Chances are you might damage the calipers if you just use a clamp. You need the specific tool that rotates the piston to get it to safely retract if you are doing the rears.

Unlike the fronts you have the mechanically engaging parking brakes in the rear so you can't just compress them.

Autozone lets you borrow the tool, I got mine for free as long as I returned it within 24 hours.

The brakes are easy as hell on these cars. I never did a brake job before and I just did my rears and put 13.2" 2012 GT brakes on my car by myself. You do have to rent the tool from the auto parts store because you have to turn the piston as you push in. I have no idea how you would be able to do it with just a c clamp.

I bought a brake caliper tool kit at Harbor Freight for like $24. This tool allows you to easily turn and push the piston back into the caliper. It paid for itself with one brake change! =-)

This. To me, it seemed like the only way to (non-forcibly) push the pistons back in was to rotate them.
