Default Got a 2005 Mustang for $600

Gents,

I have a friend who owns a tow truck company, held a car for months and no one came to get it. It runs, is in great shape, and just needs some TLC. I I have condensation in the engine so I am assuming the gaskets need replacing. Can anyone shoot me a link to a good walk thru? I want to fix it up and perhaps keep it if nothing else is too wrong - this is one of those "Wow, this is a great deal, for real" situations and couldn't pass it up.

Thanks in advance,

Paul

Wouldn't recommend driving that on the streets since you probably don't have a title..

Welcome to MF. Hope you can get it registered. I assume you have to jump through hoops without a title. I would suspect somewhere out there, a bank holds the title.

The towtruck driver can put a mechanic's lien on the title. Once it has been held X amount of time the towtruck driver can keep the vehicle and have it retitled for services and fees. So, yeah, selling it is perfectly legal. It has been a long time since I was involved with one, but all that was required back then was having a police officer verify the VIN, make sure it wasn't stolen, then the title was issued. This was twenty something years ago. And this is again assuming that there is not already a lien on the title.

Having condensation in the gauges could mean you have the dreaded leak. Do a search on this forum for leaks. Mind you, not all of us have it, but many do, especially with the earlier years.
Post some pictures when you can.

That is a great find/buy if it turns out to be all legal. Even if you have to put a few grand into it to make it reliable thats still not bad at all. Love to see it. Kinda interested in what shape its in.

Sounds like bullsh!t to me. Why would I sell you a 8-10k car for $600? I'd charge my best buddy more than $600.

Unless your buddy was trying to charge the owner 10k in storage fees, I call BS! Storage fees are also BS!

If this story is true...I wouldnt worry about condensation in the motor. Hell...stick it in a hot garage for a week or 2 to dry out then fire it up. If it blows up down the road, it's not like you put anything in it. 600 bucks when you're talkn about an 05 stang is throw away money. I have double that in the video cards for my gaming system.
