Default GT500 or 5.0 or 4.6??

Planning my swap for the summer and trying to decide which motor to buy. Which will be the easiest swap? Will I have to customize for the GT500 motor as that's the one I'm kind of leaning towards. Give me your opinions on what you would do??

With the price of used gt500s coming way down, would it be about the same cost to sell yours and buy low millege gt500.

A few things to think about...
The 4.6 is a great motor but is low on power (same as current V6) until you get a blower of some sort, however it is essentially out of production.
The 5.4 is a great motor and is still in production, but again the power is low unless you have a blower with it, mostly a torque gain over the 4.6
The 5.0 (coyote) is a great motor and has good power from the start and should be in production for a long while.

So I'd say go for the 5.0, or if you plan on going FI, any of the 3 depending on price. One thing, your gauge cluster may only work with the 4.6 & 5.4 PCM.

My car is paid off and I don't plan on getting a loan for $30k for a gt500. Has anyone swapped a 5.0 in a 05-09 yet?

I'm sure it's been done. You can get a new 5.0 motor for $6kish and computer/wiring harness for another $1500ish. If you can find a used motor, then all the better.

You need some adapters for the motor mounts. I think brenspeed uses the boss block in their 326, so the adapters they sell should work.

What about transmission?

Boss 302 is $11k on ebay. It says engine mount is common to 4.6, so it should bolt right up.

I'm not sure on trans yet. I will keep it a manual so probably try to get a motor trans combo.

From what I have seen it will cost you about $12,000 to swap to a 5.0 the right way. Im in the same position myself. Think I will change some of the internals in the 4.6, beef up the transmission and add a supercharger. And that $12,000 mark is on a GT. What have you done to your suspension?

I dont understand why people go through all of the work and customization for a motor swap..

if your motor isn't blown, why not just trade in, or sell your stang for a '11-13 5.0? I guess if you got a lightly used 5.0 motor for around $3k out of a totalled stang, did the entire swap yourself, you could save a few grand... but that's one huge headache imo

OR just supercharge your current stang. However you didnt even say if its a 4.0 or 4.6.... if its a 4.0 i'd definitely trade it in

It's the point of my car is paid off and I have the cash and time to do the swap. Plus I don't like the newer body style. Don't want a loan payment anymore. Don't want higher insurance. The list goes on. Mine is a 4.0 so 4.6 or 5.0 will be sweet. I might just do 4.6 build it then roots it.

Rebuild and a M122 GT500 blower would be the most cost effective. An easy 500rwhp car.
