If a fire marshal does show up, it is likely that he's going to be looking at fire extinguishers, smoke detectors and finding an adequate number of exits -- rather than how much fuel is in your tank.

Besides, as mentioned earlier, disconnecting the battery will render the fuel gauge inoperative. Never let your tank run empty for any reason, though, as the fuel pumps on many cars are lubricated by the fuel flowing through the line {at least I have heard that numerous times}. Running dry can result in the fuel pump overheating, or so they say.

I am not sure about Ontario, but in most metropolitan cities, there are streets where you can park your car overnight and someone will siphon your gas for you. They will probably remove your tires and wheels as well.
