Default Quick Audio Question

OK I'm venturing into new waters here with the 08 and 11 and just would like a quick opinion.

Would a mono block class D amp rated at 550 rms watts (1100 peak) running a single 12" sub (sealed box) of equal specs over power the factory shaker 500 system? Basically I want clean balanced sound, and while the shaker 500 is pretty good for a factory system, it definitely lacks bass, but I don't want it over powered. I listen primarily to rock, my wife listens to country, rock, and occasionally rap/R&B/hip hop, etc.

Yes I know I should upgrade the speakers/stereo, but that's not an option at the moment.

You should be ok, the amp should have enough adjustments on it to get the exact sound you want. Make sure you put some poly fill inside the box, it tightens up the bass greatly.

OK any other thoughts? I just don't want to get this and have it be over powering, but at the same time I found some amazing parts and very reasonable prices.

I know the Shaker 1000 produced an additional 250 rms watts over the factory 250 which is, in essence a balanced system. I'm a bit worried that 550 rms over the factory 250 may bleed out the factory speakers, which are good, but not high end kind of good, but at the same time I know 250 through a single sub isn't a lot. The sub/amp selection in that wattage range is generally really low end and I'm a bit concerned about the quality.

Imho, the shaker 500 has reasonable high end and upper midrange sound, but the subs in the doors were terrible. I did not want to just add to the factory sound in mine. Mine had a really strange amp configuration for the subs, they use unusually low speaker impedance in the door subs (1.2 Ohms) and used dual speaker coils. The factory amp that powers them runs on 12V, has no internal high voltage supply, so they use 2 small amps to run each door sub (one to each voice coil). A good amp has an internal high voltage power supply (70V or higher) which means you can get good power into 4 ohm or 2 ohm speakers.
There are a couple of good choices to upgrade the door speakers and amps, here is a link to my thread with great input from others.

I wasn't sure I'd get the sound quality I wanted with this upgrade, but it sounds fine to me. If I change the head, everything I have now can still be used, and I can add a trunk sub if I want later, and have it driven by a quality system.

Thanks for the heads up and I've noticed the subs in the door have barely any sound and I was goona look at those in the future, but I'm talking about adding real subs to the trunk. But I want to get this right the first time as I'm not redoing this again, but wanna hear a little more from audio gurus that done this stuff as all my experiance is limited to dual 10" in Sn95 platforms. I've never delt with a single 10" or 12" and really not sure what's the "best" or at least "better" route to go.
