Question GT won't start - AAAARRRG!

Came across a starting problem yesterday, It has a year-old walmart battery in it. It could either be a bad battery connection or a starting solenoid.

TROUBLESHOOTING:
If the solenoid is the problem, i should be able to start the engine by shorting the 2 contacts on the solenoid.

QUESTION:
Where is the solenoid?

Pictures and progress to be posted later. Thanks for your help in advance.

Is the theft light blinking? Here's a link to the service manual: http://iihs.net/fsm/?dir=204

What is the starter doing? Anything? Have you checked the battery terminal voltage with and without load?

tbar, it's a big engine. =)

MANUAL: Starting system
http://iihs.net/fsm/?dir=206

So I started checking some things:
  • Voltage. At the battery terminal: 12.67 v. Then again at the + and - on the engine 12.67 v.

I left the car charging overnight. I'm going to leave it alone all day tomorrow to see if the battery looses juice. Maybe a short?
  • Fuses Visually they seem to be ok. I don't know what those large gray ones are. Are they large fuses?

    .
    .
  • Staring So there is a buzzing/ticking sound (in video).
I would like to see if I could start the engine by jumping the solenoid. If yes, then i just need a new one right? I just don't know where it is.

if it's buzzing/clicking when you try to start it, it sounds like your battery. why don't you just try to jump start the car? these aren't like the old fox body cars where solenoids were notorious for going on you.

Like bones302 says. 1st thing I would try is hooking up some jumper cables to see if you get any power. FYI the starter is under the car, passenger side next to the catalytic converter.

Another thing I'd look at is the Smart junction box on the passenger side behind the kick panel, see if there's any moisture in there.

The battery from Walmart should be under a 2 year warranty. If/when you her fired up, take her to an auto shop (Pep Boys, Autozone, Advanced Auto's, O'Rielley's) and have the alternator and battery tested. Doesn't hurt to check and it's free!
