I am going with Steeda when I get mine, mainly because it uses the stock air intake above the head light and thus will get colder air that way.

All 3 CAI's retain the Fresh Air intake near the head light. All 3 will see greatly increase IAT when idling and not moving. Once you start moving all 3 get cool fresh air forced in.

Only the Factory box is completely sealed and is always getting air from outside the engine compartment.

THe factory Box is the only true COLD AIR INTAKE .. I have no idea how manufacturers get away calling them CAI's if the are sucking all the hot air from the engine compartment.

They all perform equally with a good tune. I don't like Air Raid and I own a Steeda but I still didn't vote.

Pick one, any one and get a GOOD, QUALITY CUSTOM TUNE. I did not vote either.

The steeda one seals gets sealed on the top by the hood, then there is just a small gap on the bottom where the bottom of the box dosent meet with the side of the car. soo its almost fully sealed. Mine actually matches up with a hole in the hood making the hood scoop a function one..... so 99% of the air it is taking in is the "cold" outside air.
As for the stock hood, im not sure if it seals with the top of the steeda box or not.

here is a picture of under my hood if that helps

You can monitor your Intake Air Temp with your SCT. Get you car up to temp and compare the IAT while driving and while idling for a few minutes and see how much of the air is coming from outside the engine compartment. If 99% is really coming from outside ..then your IAT will stay at around Ambient Temp even while idling. But I guarantee if Ambient is 70 degrees you will see 100+ while idling and closer to 70 while car is moving and forcing air in.

If you see Ambient while idling then Steeda did good. My JLT behaves more like I indicated above .. ambient while driving but shoots up quickly while idling.

EDIT: Found this on another forum:

I'm curious because I have a Steeda CAI and would like to compare to the stock air box. examples,

Ambient temp 98 deg, sitting at a stoplight = 150 intake temps.
Ambient temp 98 deg, cruising @50mph = 100 intake temps.
Ambient temp 98 deg, cruising @70mph = 98 intake temps.

The Steeda CAI shroud doesnt really block 100% of the engine bay air out of the filter, I'm starting to wonder if the stocker which is fully enclosed would have lower temps. I wish I would have done this before I removed the stock airbox..

END OF COPIED POST.

I would guess there is not much different between a tuned STock AIRBOX and a tuned CAI ... The only reason I have the JLT is because its Carbon Fiber and looks BadAzz ... Otherwise I'd probably just have kept the stock intake.

I didnt know that, thanks for the info. Does it matter when your idling though? wouldn't it only matter when you are moving and using power?

Don't get hung up on the "COLD" in Cold Air Intake. For the effort to get true ambient air to the CAI, your gains will be barely noticeable, if at all, on a dyno (unless you're talking greater than a 50-75 degree differential and even then, minor impact).

I like the sound a cold air intake makes at WOT.
