I have been looking in to the different drive shafts for a while, here is a link to the thread where we were discussing the ins and outs of the DS that have been available.
https://mustangforums.com/forum/3-7l...gher-revs.html

32lbs sounds awful heavy, I would suspect that that is the shipping weight and not the actual weight of the DS. As I recall most of the aftermarket shafts are about 17-20lbs so I suspect if ford had a 1pc aluminum shaft that it is well under 32lbs.

Getting the real weight for things like DSs or Rims can be pretty painful, you can find various weight listed for the exact same part number and still occasionally find someone who actually throws something on a scale and comes up with a new number that doesn't match the weight that the manufacture or the vendors list and we all know weight is often not listed.

If the part # BR3Z-4602-C is a one pc aluminum shaft 20lbs or less and only costs $350 I will very excited. The only thing that has stopped me from buying a 1 pcs DS is $$.

Hmm Part Number #BR3Z-4602-C for $230.81 ? Sounds to good to be true if it is a 1pc aluminum DS

For some reason I had it in my head that the 3.7l Automatic and the Manual Trans had different length DS? But I am not seeing that in the stuff I am reading now.

Love to hear how this works out. I hate the jarring I get every time I go into reverse with the OEM 2 piece one.

I sent an email to Ford Parts Giant asking about a full description of that part number and explaining why I wanted to know, but I have not heard back from them. There website is kind of incomplete. Lots of websites list that part number as available but none describe it as anything but a drive shaft. I am tempted to order it from somewhere, if it is not a nice light weight one piece aluminum shaft that fits my car I would just return it I guess?

ME : "Hello FPG,

The heart of my question is this, is the "BR3Z-4602-C" a 1 piece aluminum driveshaft?

I have a 2012 Mustang, 3.7L, MT, the driveshaft that ford put in most of the mustangs the last few years have been 2 piece steel which hare quite heavy, vibrate a lot and have a low RPM limit. Rumor has it that the late 2013 and 2014 models came with an improve 1 pc aluminum DS which is much improved, and from what I read the part number is "BR3Z-4602-C"

Hoping you can give me a complete description of part # BR3Z-4602-C

thanks"

FPG: Hello,
Sorry for the inconvenience. I've looked at several Mustangs around this year and they all have 2 piece steel driveshafts. The catalog wouldn't determine this.

Ask these guys, and if they fail to answer the question I'll go hound them in person:

I'm new here on the forums so forgive me ahead of time for any mistakes but... If the "Newer" stock 1 piece aluminum drive shaft weighs 32 lbs, what does the older 2 piece weigh? My 2013 3.7 was made early 2013, so a DSS or ShaftMaster seems more justifiable if this is the case.

I know my 2013 driveshaft looks just like all the rest of the 11-13 driveshafts, Spline is still in the middle.

I've already spent a couple thousand in exhaust, headers, throttle body, CAI, and a bama tune. Maybe the drive shaft will be the icing on the cake. My stocker is rusted (Not to mention a eye sore when it's on the lift) so there's no way it's aluminum anyway. May as well go all the way.
