Default [HELP] Fuel pump lock ring removal

Hi,

Can anyone tell me which tool fits the S197's fuel pump lock ring? I bought one off Amazon and it's way too small.

Or better yet, if anyone knows how to get the damned thing off without destroying it or blowing up the car please let me know. I banged on it a few times with a brass hammer but it didn't budge and I'd like to get it off without breaking it.

I just use a hammer and a good sized screwdriver. If you get the right angle, you won't need to beat the he** out of it to get it to move and it won't get mangled bad.

I've removed the ring many times to work on my fuel system. Brass punch and brass hammer is your friend.

Thanks, I got it out last night and replaced the fuel pump with a TRE-345, which was a pain, but that's another story...

Now, what I'd like to know is who the hell measured the position for the hole in the trunk! it doesn't match the opening in the gas tank so you have to be a contortionist to get the damned thing out. At least you don't need to drop the tank like some other idiotic designs.

What hole in the trunk? It's been a few years since I did the one in the 06 I had, but the fuel pump access point was under the back passenger seats.

Lol, yes, that's what I meant, the one under the seat, which does not line up with the fuel tank, chalk it up to being stoned on gas fumes...

On a high note the car still hasn't died or caught on fire so I think I did a good job Now I have to take it to my local tuner, he said he has to recheck the voltage map on the fuel pump because the car is now running a bit rich. Before it was leaning out above 5k rpm's. This was the dyno chart before the fuel pump replacement:

Glad everything went well, the fuel pump can definitely be challenging.

Glad to see you got it out, but I definitely would not be using anything other than brass for a punch on a gas tank.

Ok, I'm a little confused here.

There is no way the car was running out of fuel above 5k with those numbers you put down. Given that terrible A/F curve from before, I almost want to say find a different tuner!
