Seriously? 5.0 without a doubt. Sure you could supercharge the 4.6....and end up with "maybe" 50 more hp than a bolt on 5.0.

If the 5.0 is an option, I don't know why you'd consider a 4.6.

The 5.0 engine is amazing especially if it's matched with the 6 speed automatic. I got tired of shifting gears after 6 years and traded for an automatic.

How are you paying for the wrecked car? Even a wrecked 5.0 is going to be like 12-15k+ with a good powertrain right? Where are you going to be working on this? Do you have a garage that can take 2 cars in it and have room to work with it? Id really consider just selling and buying a working car then modding that if you want to put some work into it. Keep current car until you can afford the new one.

With 100+ horse difference, sure you can. If you had to choose between a auto 3v and a manual v6 (4.0) would you say the same?

Yes, but ONLY if I could easily make the 4.0 put down as much or more than a mildly modded 3v. Which is possible but a stretch. Also, both the 4.0's and the 3v's body styles are the same (except in '10), taking that issue out of the equation... for me.

I guess the biggest thing will be when I go look at them to see if the 2012 is too damaged or if the motor might have been damaged. So far a got a couple people for the 5.0 and a couple people for the 4.6. Ease of installation is probably going to be 4.6 but more power in the long run will probably be 5.0, correct? Anyone else got pros and cons?

Well, lots of people pushing 450whp on the 4.6L (blown), a 5.0 with CAI/tune/exhaust, is about 400whp... you'd need headers and cams to really be neck and neck with a 10-12 psi 4.6L





bingo.. of course the 5.0 has over 100hp over the 4.6, but ever time I get in the auto 5.0 i'd be kicking myself. Its faster, but less fun to drive.

I'd definitely get the 4.6L and save up for a s/c kit




that's a whole different situation. Not ragging on the 4.0, but i'd never even consider buying one, unless it was super clean, dirt cheap, and i needed a car right now. You can SC the 4.0 but it still is a 6 cylinder and i'd always be wishing I had the v8

4.6L and 5.0L are both v8's (sound, potential, etc).... 4.0 is v6



edit: yes, obviously check if anything is damaged, but mileage is another factor. If the 5.0 automatic only had 10k miles, while the 4.6L manual had 60k miles, i'd probably get the 5.0 in that case.
