Exclamation FISH TANK IN MY TRUNK PLEASE HELP!!

So i just bought my 2007 mustang 2 weeks ago i went to get somethings out of my trunk and i noticed they were wet it did rain very hard that day so i pulled my spare tire out just to check and see how much water got in and to my surprise it was covered with water.. I water where my space tire goes and at least 6inches of water on the 2 sides where all the caulking is... i went straight back to the dealership but the only problem is the car is an 07 with 47k on it its only under an extended warranty for 4 year 100k They said they will take the car to the body shop and have them look at it. I ran some water over the trunk with my buddy in it with a flashlight and the only water leak he can see is on the right hand side where the joint is. Should that joint be caulked or should that be welded. My next concern is how much water is in my trunk, is it going anywhere else, and how much rust is in this car... if anyone has had this similar problem please help!!

I recently read where someone had a trunk leak that turned out to be from the rear window where the defroster connection is. Regardless, if you've isolated the source to what you found, then I'd RTV it since you're not under warranty. As far as rust, pull the liner and carpet out and let everything dry well in the sun. If you have any surface rust, clean it up and prep it, then button everything back up. It's a trunk and as long as you stopped the leak, you should be good.

there should be 2 rubber pieces in the bottom of the trunk where the spare wheel is, id cut a small hole/poke one through for if any water was in there and keep it from building up so much.

goodluck getting your leak fixed

My 2013 had water in the trunk, but from my OCD washing. I only had about 1/2" under the spare tire. Ended up being the seal around the 3rd brake light (check there). The dealership replaced it and it has been dry ever since..

Get a light and look down by the rear tail lights and see if the drain plugs are backed up with stuff. If you can't get a good look down there you can always pull the taillights off should just be a few bolts on the inside of the trunk then pull the plug and they come right off.
