Cool 420 HP in the 2014's!!

Friend just bought his wife a 2014 GT. I was giving him a hard time about all the burnouts she could do if she turned the traction control off. Then I looked on Ford.com and saw the '14's were rated at 420 HP...from a 5 liter!! Dang, that's a hoss!!

That's crank HP. It "ONLY" puts down about 370 RWHP. Add another 30-40 RWHP with a good custom tune.

It's funny how the 11-12's are rated at 412 and the 13-14's are rated at 420, but when actually dynoed, they make the same amount. I feel like the "420hp" rating is just marketing hype.

It's a fantastic platform for sure. It has real potential, as demonstrated by the likes of the Boss 302. Certainly makes my "measly" 300ish horsepower feel tame by comparison. Hope your friend and his wife have lots of fun with it!

You mean like the original 5.0 that was really 4.9?

I have seen that in more than just one or two places. I wonder if it is a true? Why would Ford "sand bag" the numbers? To throw of the competition somehow? Wondered and it just does not make sense to me. Second time I have seen that posted on this forum.

I know the primary explanation is supposed to be reduced crank windage from the elimination of the piston squirters. The boss ring pack was supposed to haven helped slightly as well.

While the explanation makes sense I don't know but what the gains couldn't have been given back elsewhere like the tune.

I want to drive one so badly, but afraid I won't leave without buying one lol

I know how I am.. impulsive, crazy, and power hungry!

I owned a few high hp cars before, so I am not a noob but power soo easily is what impresses me the most.

No turbo, no supercharger.. just all motor!
