CAI or Shifter ?
#11
I currently have a bama tune with stock cai and stock shifter... I wonder which mod would be more beneficial for the cost. I think id be going with the steeda intake or the mgw shifter. Intake would probably give a bit of HP and sound great, shifter would improve shifting...
hard to decide which to do for now

Since you're already running a Bama tune, a CAI is definitely going to be more beneficial than the shifter. You'll notice a power gain and definitely some more engine noise! The stock Air Box in the 2011+ Mustangs isn't as restrictive as previous years but it still holds you back.
Don't get me wrong, an MGW shifter is a great product and definitely something I would throw on your car at some point. I just think you'll enjoy the CAI a little bit more! This is just my opinion, let me know if you have any questions or need some assistance in the near future.

I'm going to suggest the shifter first, because you already have a 5.0. With the 4.6 we need the tune and CAI to beat Honda Civics
I think you, on the other hand, would benefit from a shifter first, but it's a tough call. Personally an MGW was the first thing I did to my car.

CAI will stop you from going FI right away as they have a different setup... by the time you mod to the point your only left with the option of going FI you wont really care that you spent the money on the CAI cause it served its purpose for you... not to mention that once you do go FI you can always put your old CAI on Craigslist (US) or Kajiji (Canada) and get probably atleast half what you paid back if you keep it in good condition.
As for the shifter a lot went with a short shifter for 2 reasons... first being shorter throws than the rowboat shifts of the stock shifter. Second being they were having lock out issues, MT82 is famous for locking out 3rd gear at like 6000-7000 RPMS and in some cases new shifter solved their issues of being locked. Didnt solve it for everyone ssome had to swap clutch lines to braided and/or get rid of the junk fluid ford uses in the tranny.
If the idea of the MGW shifter install feels above your head to do I am sure you have a friend or two that are mechanically inclined who can help or you can go with another shifter like the Barton Two-Post which is obviously cheaper as it doesn't replace entire shifter assembly but is also alot easier to install.

The Barton Two Post refers to the type of lower mounting bracket, not their shifter. Their shifter replaces everything that most other aftermarket shifter replaces, and is compatible with both single and two post brackets.

In your case I would pick the MGW first. I should not have waited so long to get mine and with the adjustability you can get the throw exactly how you want it. That 5.0 engine and exhaust will hold you on the street until you are ready to get a CAI.
