Default Changed fluid in my TR3650! So much better..

I see that alot of people are using Mobil 1 ATF or Amsoil or Syncrhomesh..

I went with Castrol TransMax Mercon V. I also used 3.2 quarts, and the dude seemed confused because his computer said 4. Just put the 3.2 in there, lol.

The 1-2 ans 2-3 shifts require alot less effort and feels noticably better. I can bang the gears now at 6500 without getting locked out sometimes.

If you haven't changed out your fluid, do it.

The old fluid was almost black, which I don't know how to interperet. Is that normal for 65K?

Thanks for reminding me.. something I need to do soon. I got my car used almost 2 years ago and it has 90k miles now. No telling when/if it was changed

Yep, these transmissions run hot with the factory fluid, so I'm not surprised it looks burnt. I've been using Royal purple synchromax for 5 years and 30,000+ miles.

Completely agree on the Royal Purple. Made my shifts like butter.

What, if I may ask, made you go Castrol? I'm dropping my trans in the next couple weeks to do a clutch install, so I figured I'd do fluids while I was there too...I was planning on Mobil 1 myself

We bought ours June, it's a 2008 GT 5 speed and has 22K miles on it and after installing a Hurst Billet shifter .... maybe a week later .... I changed the factory lube for Mobil 1 Synthetic ATF.

Largely for piece of mind (I'm not likely to try full throttle power shifts like the ones I used to do with my old Chrysler or Muncie 4spd as these transmissions in these late Mustangs don't feel like they invite it like the old school 4 speeds with Hurst C+ shifters? So I'm more like "pausing 0.43 sec in neutral and then moving to next gear") .... it shifts at least as well as it did, maybe even some smoother or less notchy.

I changed mine at 80k, and went with Mercon V. It made a big difference in shifting and is smooth at 90*F and at -10*F. I know that others like aftermarket lubes, but I decided to just use the factory fill again.
