CB antenna on a 2012 GT
Hey folks, maybe someone can help me out.. Im trying to mount a CB antenna on my 2012 Mustang GT, I have tried the glass mount and they suck! can't hear down the street. Mounting the radio wasn't a biggie, tons of room in the console. Why? cause Im on the road alot and my CB keeps me awake and informed Somebody must have figured a way to mount an antenna without screwing up the paint with a dumb looking magnet or drilling a new hole in your car!

I seem to recall someone mentioning a windshield mounted permanent one, but I dont recall where. Other people have ran it to the trunk and then magnetically mounted it there. Might be worth considering getting a small circle of 3M stripe material *like the rally or le mans stripe) that matches or comes close to your color, placing that on the trunk lid, then mount your magnetic base right over that. Protects your paint at least and can be easily and cheaply replaced.
If you figure it out, I'd like to hear. I've considered a CB as well.

I grew up in a house hold where Daddy was a Ham and CBer (electronics was his profession) and then I also spent 31 + years as a Trooper with often new cars, some early ones with 7 antennas counting radar. If I want a CB in one full time, I had no problem with a hole to mount an Antenna Specialist base load antenna, they are about as good as they come. When selling, you use a filler or plug ..... and hopefully you chose wisely where to mount.
With the Mustang, the trunk opens at a huge angle, so the whip likely would slap the roof maybe ..... haven't measured ..... but it would be a chance to scratch the back glass.
There are those "combiners" that allow you to tune the signal from the AM / FM fender antenna to CB, they work for a few miles ..... I have used them in some apps, and have exactly that on my '85 Gold Wing equipped with a single antenna for AM / FM factory, the CB does not mess up the commercial radio either. I am told by others on rides that mine is as clear or clearer than others with factory CBs on dedicated antennas and often I can hear other groups we are meeting before anyone else in my group .... we run Channel 1.
I have a 40 Channel Cobra with a small magnetic antenna in a box that I use when I am in a group and I drive the car following the bikes, I have used it on even cross country trips .... but I always clean the anticipated mounting location really well, apply wax, apply a layer of static cling window tint while clean, using a soapy water mix and queegee ..... and then and only then, stick the antenna in place after ensuring no trash is on it's base.
On some police cars I've had, ones not equipped with CB from SPHQ .... I have used a magnetic antenna as above but made a hook or a stiff plastic heated and benty to hook over the leading edge of the trunk or the bar light on roof to support it at often seen high speeds. I've never had one come loose.
And I have used the glass mounts ..... they are OK only for close monitoring like near by tractor trailers running in packs in the wee hours as I worked midnights, etc, ..... as I never got a good SWR with one ..... so I usually used glass mounting only for my Uniden Scanner antennas ..... and even then I always placed the antenna base, added masking tape 1/8" from it, then applied silicone sealant around base, smoothed with finger dampened with spit, then pull tape clear.
In any case, I always make antenna adjustments with my SWR meter and get as close to 1.1:1 as I can.

Thank you guys for the help! I tried the rear window glass mount and that sucked!!! I will not let this project beat me! I took apart the rear passenger side Am Fm antenna, and unscrewed it from the base. What was left was a nice 3/4 inch hole that will fit a Hustler center wave antenna with a small swivel bottom! I went on the Hustler site and ordered one, lets see how that goes:-) I don't use the AM Fm anyways, I have XM installed.. I just have to wait out ups!

You could install the AM/FM windshield antenna. Now that's something that I've read somewhere on here that actually works. Then go with your plan to put the CB whip where the stock antenna goes. Or like you said, screw AM/FM. There isnt anything good on anyway.

You can buy clear vinyl, cut out a square, and apply it to your preferred mounting location, and then mount your magnetic antenna.
I bought some clear vinyl so I could apply a decal to a painted surface. When I want to remove the decal, all I need is a hair dryer to heat up the vinyl, and it will peel right off, leaving no residue.

There used to be a mount that went on the side of the trunk lip and folded down into the trunk when not wanting the antenna to show. It allowed your choice of antenna within reason and seemed to work good. It left no marks on the outside of the vehicle.

I checked on that AmFm window antenna! Thats a pretty cool idea, this thing plugs into your radio antenna and lays under the dash.. that will work! The Hustler antenna will either trunk lip, or use the existing radio hole. I'm going with the radio hole, and then plugging the Am Fm under the dash concealed antenna. I think it will look pretty good when i'm done. Ill send you guys a pic when I get the parts in.
Thanks again!

the easiest to install and remove antenna that gives the best range is probably a big magnet mount with a tunable stick antenna.
It's got to be mounted onto metal, with the rear roof being the best spot, trunk is a distant second. I think my stick was about 3 feet. It never came off my old '81 Mustang even at top speeds with a piece of paper under it.
Don't forget that having a good radio will make a lot of difference, but I'm not sure an antenna mounted onto glass will help the best peaked & tweaked radio.
