Default Help me choose a clutch

So just bought some Drag radials from American muscle and looking into a clutch. My clutch is not slpping yet but most likely will when i start hooking. I am putting down 430 rwhp and wondering what clutch should i get.

I am looking for something that is drivable, not too soft and not too hard. I was looking at the Exedy mach 400 stage 2 from American muscle and the reviews seem great with no issues. The shop i installed my Procharger kit at recommended Centerforce Dual fiction for my car.

What do you guys think?

It sounds like you're doing your car right, that's really cool! With a radial and 430 RWHP, it's time to start thinking about a clutch. Your stock clutch is pretty strong and will hold up for a while but it's definitely time to starting looking into different clutches!

Exedy makes a really good clutch and I think you'll be really happy with their set up. You could even look into a Stage 3 or Stage 4, if you have any intentions of modding your car further down the road. Like Cams, Nitrous or a blower! We have the Exedy Stage 4 in our 2014 GT project car that's laying down similar power to your car and it's not bad to drive it at all. The pedal isn't to stiff and it's set up to hold a ton of power!

You could also look into a Mcleod clutch, the RXT is definitely a sick set up!

I hope this helps. Hit me up if you have any questions or need some assistance!

-Dan

So far iam going with exedy Stage 3, but my local performance shop mentioned that if you get a 600 pound feet of torque at the crank and you only make 500 for example, it will wear our your clutch quicker. I am trying my luck and leaning toward stage 3 at the moment, i still have time to do more research.

I haven't heard good reviews on the Exedy clutches. I've been told that the engagement is at the floor, so it sucks in traffic... but also when you're racing, you're used to shifting midway through the pedal travel, and instead you're locked out of your gear. Missed shifts are never good.

Also, at 430hp, you don't need an RXT. I would recommend looking at the McLeod RST. Another good option, if you don't have plans to step the power up down the road, would be the Super Street Pro kit from McLeod.

RST clutch:

Super Street Pro:

Give Terry at Street Lethal Performance a call, he'll take care of you

Go with Exedy. I have Exedy 500 with flywheel. It's a little more stuff than stock when shifting first. Grabs hard and doesn't slip

McLeod RST (RXT if you drag race a lot). Best clutch I've ever driven and I've driven a LOT of them.

There's the McLeod, and then there's the rest.

weekend car, i do get on it every time when i drive it, I do drag strip about 3 times a year. I'd hate to admit it but the exedy mach 500 seems great for the money, and that's why iam getting it so far. Can anyone link me to a good kit ?
