2005 Fall / Winter conversion project
Hello all!
I recently acquired a totaled (badly rear ended) low mileage (4k) V6 2012 Stang for $900.00 and have removed everything under the hood. My plan is to swap out the power plant, transmission, etc. and have it ready to roll by spring of 14. I'm currently beefing up the engine with headers, new BBK throttle, air cleaner, etc. My question is, can I use my current 05 computer, or do I need to install the 2012 computer to make everything work properly?
As always, Thanks for you expert advice

So to be clear...you've pulled the mechanicals from the totaled car and are installing in your current 05 v6. The ECU's are not compatible so you'll need to move that over too. Im wondering if it's going to need to be reflashed because if the 12 was totaled, did the air bags deploy and cause any weirdness? I know that Lakewood Ford can reflash them too but don't know if they need to be in the car. Im assuming any Ford dealer can reflash. If not, there is a dyno shop in Parker CO and I think that they can program them too if you run into trouble.

Thats going to be a lot harder than it may seem. I inquired about a 5.0 swap awhile ago from the performance shop I use and he said it would be a pain to swap a 5.0 into our cars because of the different ECU. Just to mention some things he said the power windows, locks, gauge cluster, etc would not work.

I have pulled everything from under the hood and plan on starting the install by early November.
The dash & seat airbags did not deploy. There won't be much left to pull when I'm done
As for the ECU, I was only asking about the compatibility because of the time it would save me from not having to deal with it. If I have to use the 2012 ECU, then so be it.

Im pretty sure you're going to have to use the new ECU, but that's based on the tiny bit of knowledge I have about them. I know that from a 2006 to 2010 GT that the hardware spec of them changed significantly even though the case looked the same. If you're around the Aurora area, I'd love to swing by sometime and peep your project.
