Just one of the quirks of owning an early model s197, been wrestling with the gas pump for 8 years now- I still have no idea which technique works.

Leaning onto handle of the gas pump has almost always worked for me. Been battling that issue for over 8 years as well.

shame on ford tbh for selling a car like this
it is a pita but i made sure i found a pump that was semi ok and only filled up there..
have the nozle out half way and tilted..
my 2010 is a normal fill up thank fek

My 06 does it and my 2011 E350 cube van does it to. Stupid ford design.
