Default 2005 Mustang starting issue

Hi,

I have a 2005 4L Mustang. When I attempt to start the car I hear 2 clicks and it appears that the battery disconnects completely. I have to disconnect the battery and reconnect it to regain power. I have recharged the battery.

The security lights on the dash go off on the dash before starting so I don't think there is an issue with that. The earth seems to be connected too.

I've had the car for over a year and the battery was replaced 2 months ago. I am not sure what to do now. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance

Take a close look at the terminals perhaps there is a crack or some corrosion, perhaps that is reason it starts when they are moved.

I'd start with the battery. It could be defective. Of course after making sure the clamps aren't shot.

May be your alternator is toast?

+1 on being sure that the battery terminals and insides of the cable clamps are clean, then making a good, tight connection to the battery. If it starts after some clamp movement, it sounds like dirty terminals as spartaperformance mentioned..

I did have a terminal changed recently and a new battery. Battery tests well and everything is fine until I try to start it. The alternator is good too so I will go with the terminals for now and check that out.

Thanks

Please explain... Did they replace the cable or just the cable connector at the end of the cable? The possibilities include a bad cable-to-terminal joint which would also be symptomatic of inconsistent contact intermittently resolved by movement.

Nuke makes a good point. If only the terminal, and not the entire terminal/cable was replaced, there is a good chance that the connection will fail. It's generally better to have a new one piece terminal/cable, rather than trying to use a new terminal on an existing cable. It is more difficult to get a good connection than it might seem.

Just because I don't know, was it load tested properly?
