Default Gas Capacity / Computer Accuracy Questions

I filled up yesterday after a rare instance where I was very low on gas. The computer says I had 22 miles remaining, or, about a gallon of gas. The gas gauge showed slightly above the "E" but I've never been that low so I don't know where empty actually is. The manual says I have a 14 gallon gas tank. The pump said I used 14.005 gallons.

Someone is lying!

So, is there some reserve capacity?
Is the computer not capable?
Or, is the gas station robbing me?

That explains it! I think I got it confused with the wife's Focus. It's 14 gal. So, if we assume a 15 gal tank with a 1 gal reserve capacity, the computer was dead-on accurate! That's good to know as I'm driving Kansas to Chicago next week.

Don't allow the tank to get that low. The fuel pump is cooled by the fuel in the tank. Also, don't rely on the on-board for when to fill up. Even if the '11's on up are more accurate than the typically woeful 05's thru 10's, watch your gauge.

My gauge (estimated distance to empty) is pretty accurate. I've ran it down to 0 on the way to the gas station, and I made it there OK.

Much better than years ago when I was riding with my dad in his 84 Corvette with 12 miles to empty on the digital readout, and we ended up walking half a mile when it ran out of gas on the freeway...

Not certain about the exact mark it turned on at, but the gas gauge in my '07 GT/CS lit up in red when I had under about 10 miles left the other night.

I've been able to go about 10 to 20 miles after it says 0. Never have run out of gas, though once I was barely moving into a gas station when I was on fumes. I don't really stretch it like that much at all.

My computer is accurate. Once I had an appointment that was an hour away, I was planning on getting gas on my way back because I was running late. Car read 20 miles till empty on the way back, it was a 40 mile trip. Unfortunately for me, I forgot my wallet. I switched to the gallons used, and I think I was 15.6 gallons used by the time I made it home/got gas and the car was reading 0 miles till empty after the 15th gallon.

Computer should read 15 gallons, with 1 in reserve.
