New engine cost?

New engine cost?
ISSUE RESOLVED! No new engine needed! (Needed a solenoid & spark plug)
What should a new engine cost?
I have a 2006 GT convertible. Has about 105k miles, no mods. Just had oil changed & transmission fluid replaced last month & everything was great.
The other day my mustang starting idling rough. Two blocks later I pulled into a parking lot, shut it off, popped the hood. Nothing looked out of place & fluids were fine. Restarted it, idled rough again & check engine light came on, so I turned it off & had it towed to the dealer.
Dealer tells me likely need to rebuild or replace the engine (still need to get full details).
What should a new engine cost?
Any advice or recommendations would be greatly appreciated. (Will update as I hear more.)
UPDATE # 3:
The mechanic said the entire left bank of the engine is not functioning. He says the timing is off and compression is low. He sees sludge around oil cap & said he can see sludge in the engine (he is confident he'd see more if he took apart the engine). He said the VGT system failed (he talked like it was a problematic system). Frustrating because I did consistently, regularly change my oil.
The service rep quoted a new engine at $6800 including installation and an additional $1600 for coils and injectors ($100/each x 8), which they recommend.
Here are my check engine error codes:
P0018 - Crankshaft Position - Camshaft Position Correlation - Bank 2 Sensor A
P0022 - Intake Camshaft Position Timing - Over-Retarded (Bank 2)
P0300 - Random Misfire Detected
P030x - Cylinder x Misfire Detected (Mine P0305)
UPDATE # 4: I am taking it to a reputable mechanic who will look at it Monday.
UPDATE # 5: Engine fixed!!!
All the error codes are resolved & car is running great. No new engine needed. It needed a new spark plug and a new solenoid.
Thank you everyone on here for all the advice especially to get a 2nd opinion from a reputable shop, which is exactly what I did.

I'd recommend Brenspeed and their variety of engines. They have the B302, B326 and a complete engine built by Saleen that comes with a 12 month, 12,000 mile warranty.
The short blocks are @ $5,000. The Saleen long block, complete engine is @ $12,000. Check the site.

Uh at 105K miles, that's just starting to get worn in....what made the dealer say you needed a new engine or a rebuild...?
What were the codes for the Check Engine light?
It's a total waste of resources to just assume the dealer is correct without them providing supporting reasons for that comment on their part....That or you're leaving out a lot.

Thanks! You're correct. I have almost no details. I have a call in & am trying to get the facts.

- New engine quoted cost $6,800.
BUT that may not fix the issue. Could cost another $1,600 but I was not following at that point & do not know what that was for.
Dealer service rep tells me half of the engine is not producing power. (Still don't have a good answer as to what's wrong -- I don't think they know.) They say they can tear open the engine and figure out what's wrong & rebuild it, but it would probably be cheaper to put in a new engine.
Thanks for feedback everyone! Hope to get more facts tomorrow at the dealership.
