Front crankshaft oil seal replacement?

Front crankshaft oil seal replacement?
Has anyone replaced the front crankshaft seal without the use of the special tools mentioned by Ford? I'm in the middle of the job and I got the old seal out but I can't for the life of me get the new seal installed. I tried using a socket that's the same diameter as the seal and hit the socket with a rubber mallet but I still couldn't get it in. The seal would just teeter totter from one side to the other. I need to somehow get equal pressure on all sides to press it in. I might end up buying the special tool and it's not cheap.

I had to improvise but I managed to install the seal finally. I used a long bolt from the harmonic balancer install kit I rented before starting this. I put the bolt through a deep socket AND the large socket I mentioned in my original post. A washer was put between the two sockets and another one under the long bolt head. I was then able to drive the seal in by turning the long bolt.
