Both were 3.31 autos. Now the 2011 GT manual with 3.73 gears was a blast to test drive but the rpms were well above 4,000 on most of the test drive. I bought the auto because the Mustang was for my wife & that's what she wanted.

Another difference is HID headlights are on all 2013+ models, they are an option on the 2011-2012's. 2013 also include some more electronic features like track apps.

Oh and the interior on the base model 2013 GT also includes the premium style steering wheel (metallic spokes, leather grip) and Microsoft SYNC. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the base models from 2012 had an all plastic steering wheel and don't have SYNC.

My 2012 came with the #5 appearance package that has the hood scoop. The 2013 and new do not have that option. I've seen a lot of 2013 but I'm more pleased with what I have than what they have now. Either way, they both look killer.

I see, maybe it's standard on the base model GTs for 2014. I was surprised to see it on mine.

Looks are obviously a matter of personal taste. So go with what ever model year looks best to you. I personally like the 2013 better because the HID headlights really light up the road, the track apps is fun to play with, the rear tail lights are pretty killer, LED lighting hopefully means I'll never have to change another bulb and the hood vents are actually functional and I have always liked the front end of the GT500 over the GT. But pick which ever one floats your boat and feel good that you are part of a proud American heritage that's been around for 50 years.

Enjoy the ride!!!
