Maybe we both need to think positively instead, something like "pro-stick", "pro-manual", or "pro-MT" vs "pro-automatic" or "pro-AT"?
I prefer to think "pro-car" and leave the shifting method for the intended users best-fit. I also prefer to not get locked in to preconceived notions. Times change, technology changes. Move on.

Some of the new dual clutch "manual shift automatics" are the most technologically advanced transmissions ever devised and shift in milliseconds. That is why they are used in the most advanced race cars (F1 in particular).

If you look at most of the fastest accelerating street cars they all have 3 things in common (in addition to high horsepower):

1. All wheel drive
2. Launch control
3. Dual clutch automatics

Examples are Bugatti, Nissan GT-R, 911 Turbo S

For me, however, it's not all about the strip. My car is a DD and I want to be engaged and enjoy the drive. For that you can't beat the 6 speed MT.

Bull **** ! I have a auto and up untill last week I was running a mac off road pro chamber with mac boomtubes. I loved that sound but now I put on a magna flow high flow catted h pipe and the car still sounds nasty and I swear it has better accleration! You buy what you like and the trans has no affect on sound belive me!

nj07 - as long as you're going at a steady speed I agree that you'd not likely be able to tell the difference.

But as soon as a car out of sight but within hearing range runs up through the gears from a stop, if you cannot always tell right away whether it's an automatic or a stick-shift car it might be time to make an appointment with a hearing specialist. I don't know if this matters to Razor (OP).

If you can pick up the difference and it doesn't matter to you, that's a perfectly good answer (and I suspect a pretty common situation).

Dislike I can understand, certainly applicable as far as my own individual choices are concerned.

The word 'hate' has taken on a milder meaning or has been over used so much that you are numb to it.

Like Extreme (Xtreme however you want to spell it). Everything was 'Extreme' in the late 90's and early 2000's. That word has zero significance to me now. Xtreme gum...seriously? Xtreme Dew...seriously?

I use the word annoying now in place of hate or dislike. I put my kids on the spot too whenever they use it out of context. "I really hate that my laptop is so slow booting up' Really? You hate it like you would hate to live in a 3rd world country where you have no freedoms and probably not even a laptop to complain about...or is it just annoying? They correct themselves usually.

My car is also a daily driver, I am engaged and enjoy the drive and you also can't beat the 6-speed automatic, especially in stop and go traffic. You can be engaged in driving, enjoy it and never touch a shifter although I can do that as well if I want to.

It's all personal preference. I really enjoy the skill of executing a perfect 3->2 downshift with a heel/toe throttle blip as I approach a sharp turn. I also like the ability to keep the absolutely correct gear to maximize my acceleration coming past the apex. You can't do that effectively with an automatic - even with manual shift or "gear hold" technology - as the gears are sequential.

I hear you on the stop and go - but I don't deal with that much so having an auto tranny is not necessary. I don't think I would have a 600hp daily driver if I had long commutes.

I absolutely see the logic for an auto in traffic or at the strip. I would not want one on a road course.

as i keep saying if the mustang had a modern clutch and gearbox it would be my prefered option.
seeing as the drivetrain slop
the crude no feel clutch
the notchy noisy gearboxes
these are all problems i cant live with...so happy i went over to auto..the mustang isnt a sports car anyway ffs..it's a gt car..
if and when ford fit a proper clutch gearbox and drive train then it's a no no for a manual for me...
dont forget how far u have to press the clutch is use it..unless u have really long legs a manual mustang will be a nightmare to drive

i dont have long legs, the clutch pedal works fine for me.

its a mass produced car for 30k for a v8, theres always aftermarket to try and change the drivetrain how you want it.

I still dislike the veyron
