Hopefully there are some audiophiles in here as well.

I have had JL speakers installed in the doors for years. One of them has cracked and I'm looking to replace both of them with a new pair. Anyways, has anybody had any luck installing speakers or recommend a certain pair that isn't going to bang the door panel when they hit hard? My current ones have basically always done this.

I just installed a pair of Polk DB571's this past weekend and did some sound deadening while I was there.

When shopping for fit, I started at crutchfield.com and entered my car's year/make/model information. The website will filter out the speakers that fit, then at that point I went over to Amazon to make my purchase (where the same speakers were $50 cheaper).

Installation was simple. I used a 7mm socket wrench to remove the bolts around the door trim, a 6mm socket wrench to remove the bolts around the speaker, and a T-25 torx bit to remove the two torx screws. I also bought a plastic trim removal kit off amazon for $12 to help remove some of the smaller plastic panels, but these tools weren't necessary; you can use a flat head screw driver, just be gentle not to scratch your panels.

Tip: take pictures throughout the process so you know where the wiring harnesses and such hook-up when you re-assemble everything.

I wouldn't recommend the Polk DB571 if you have a big budget. Since this was partially R&D for me, I opted for a entry/budget level speaker. If I do it again, I'd probably go with 4x Infinity's.

Hey, I recently upgraded my door speakers to Apline Type R's. Crutchfield said they wouldn't fit my car, they said the tweeter sticks 1/4" too far out. I went ahead and purchased them for $100 off Amazon ($100 cheaper than Crutchfield). Here is how I fixed the speaker hitting the door pannel issue.

What I did is I taped some paper over the front of the speaker. I then applied some toothpaste on to the paper (it's all I had and could think of). Then I pushed the speaker against the door as if it was installed in the car. When I removed the speaker, the door/speaker enclosure had toothpaste where the speaker made contact with the door. I then used a dremel to easily grind away the plastic that was making contact with the speaker. Here is a picture of what that looked like.




As for the speakers themselves. The Apline Type R's are "bright" they will get loud in a hurry. It made a modest difference. I recently upgraded my headunit which made a major difference. I was told by some that it wouldn't make a difference but I can tell you they sound good now. They sounded like crap right after I replaced my HU, but after playing with the equalizer for a few hours I hit the sweet spot!

i have pioneer TS-A6874R in the doors and rear as well as front subs are replaced with shebly/kicker subs..

Are you running the kicker subs off an aftermarket amp? I heard they dont bump using the stock shaker amp. I feel like if I install an amp, I'm just gonna put a sub in the trunk.

no running Cadence amps, 500 watt 2- channel amp for subs and 1000 watt 4- channel for speakers. both amps are mountd to the rear seats in trunk

Infinity 4"x7" fit perfectly in the doors without the shaker system. The clarity is awesome. My head unit is an AVIC D3. I put Infinity 6"x9" on the rear deck, I had to enlarge the holes to get those to fit, its under the rear deck, you would have to lay in the trunk and look up to notice the enlarged holes. Again I believe the stock size were 4"x7". Sound is awesome, both base and the clarity to the highs is unparallelled.
