Default Best year for the 5.0L

If a guy wants to buy a used or new 5.0L Mustang in what years were improvements/changes made in engine and transmissions worth noting! Please include both stick and auto trans. I'm getting old so I might go with an auto trans this time! Keep in mind I would be immediately adding a Roush supercharger so engine, trans. and driveline strength is the big issue!

Thanx in advance for opinions,

Mr. D

I would have to say the 2013. No more piston cooling jets, and different pistons for the 2013, among other things. The newest revision of an existing motor is always your best bet, in my opinion. Its not too brand new where aftermarket parts will still be in "test phase" but not old enough to be the first year motor that usually needs a year or two of production to get all the kinks out. Plus, with a 13' you've got a great chance of finding one thats got hardly any miles on it.

Thanx for the response! What is the issue with "piston cooling jets"? You lost me!

I dont think the piston oilers actually hurt anything and actually provide some benefits like faster and more thorough lubrication, faster oil warming temp etc?

A picture is worth a thousand "woirds"! Thanx! Almost looks like a 2 stroke oiling approach. Seems like it would be good for hard use and doesn't depend on pulling oil out of the pan as much. I assume the purpose is cooling cylinders under heavy load!

1. What years have the piston oilers? Any down side to the 2014 5.0L Engine & trans.??

2. Any opinion how the Mustang auto trans. holds up with a supercharger at 575 HP.... of course..... "assuming".... it is not abused, or driven like an angry 13 year old? Any trans. kits recommended?

auto trans is the same on all models since 2011 as far as i know, and its fine to like 1000 hp from what ive seen and read and they are a lot easier on the rest of the drivetrain. 2011's and 2012's 5.0 gt's have the piston oil squirters

the boss 302 does not have the oil squirters which i found kind of odd and is part of the reason some people think they arent beneficial
