was reading about how they can cause problems and its best to upgrade to a higher amp...I heard they were like 110 amps or something? But when I look in autozone and other parts stores, they all carry 135 amp alternators - so did ford issue an update telling everyone to get 135 or higher alternators?

I believe they were 130 Amp. They have been known for failing though, not because of too few amps, but bad design.

Considering how many times I hear about failures of Motorcraft alternators (factory OE, store-bought OE both new and rebuilt), I wouldn't even think of replacing one with another Motorcraft. Plenty of forum members have replaced their OE alternators with one from PA Performance. I don't know the specs but I'm pretty sure they have a higher rated output than the OE unit.

Ya PA on AM has 130 and 135 Amps and 200 amps. mine hasn't failed yet but if it does I'll probably get a PA 130 since that seems to be the most popular one on AM and 200 would be overkill for me since I don't use any sound system or aftermarket electronics.
