Default Tune or 3.73 gears?

I have a fully stock 2012 GT Automatic and am trying to decide between getting a Bama tune(s) or FRPP 3.73 gears - (stock is 3.15) for better performance and acceleration. Cost is about the same.

If you could only do one - which would you do and why?

Thanks for any feedback/opinions - especially if you have personal experience.

Get the Tuner first, it's going to be your foundation for your mods. When you get the gears, you can easily correct the speedo when you put them on. Then if/when you add any other performance mods you'll have that tuner to make everything right.

I run the 93 Race Bama tune on mine, and it is a night and day difference. Bought a 8.8" axle and slapped 3.73's on there, moving up from 3.31, and the acceleration was way better, but I was very happy that I went with the tuner first.

You need the tuner to adjust for the gear change, so get the tuner first.

Thank you. Seems like most feel a tune first.

Just curious though - What kind of impact on driving/performance would I see on a stock automatic if I just did the 3.73 gears? It has the stock 3.15s now.

These guys have all pointed you in the right direction. A Tune will be necessary to adjust your speedometer for the gears. That being said, I would recommend going with a Custom Tuner first.

Gears and a Custom Tune are the two most beneficial mods you can do for your 2011+ GT, IMO. I went with 3.73's and a Bama Custom tune at the same time on my 2011 GT and I couldn't be happier. The car really woke up in a few different departments. Power, torque, acceleration, drive ability, gas mileage, throttle response, shift points (since AUTO) and much more!

If you have any questions at all feel free to hit up the Bama team directly. They'll gladly point you in the right direction and make sure that you're squared away and in good shape! Our Bama Performance tuning specialists are here in the building Monday-Friday from 9AM-5:30PM EST and Saturday 9AM-5:30PM EST. You can hit them up directly at 888.226.9764 and they'll get you squared away!

+1 Tune first! A custom tune is like the base for all other future mods since you'll be able to dial them in later down the road (Headers,cams.gears...) and get the most out of them. Also once you do get gears, I believe that's something you can just adjust yourself on the tuner.
