How to Remove OEM HID Ballasts?
#11
I also learned there is a D3C on the market now that will physically fit both styles but I'd rather just stick to what is required, D3R.
OEM is Osram but Philips is also OEM for many car mfgs and can be substituted. That's what I did. Cheapest I found was on Amazon. $180 for the pair. Decided to order them since I could not accept there was a harness issue and when I swapped the headlight assemblies the Drivers side started to flake out.
Lo and behold..fixed. Both sides are working perfectly now.... go figure.
For as much as I preach to troubleshoot starting with the easiest first, I certainly didn't follow my own advice. Changing the light bulbs is easy since you don't have to remove anything accept for maybe the air intake on the drivers side.
So for anyone that has an Issue in the future. Start with the bulbs first
OEM HID Bulbs are D3R made by Osram (as is the ballast) but you can also substitute Philips.
OEM Color Temp is 4300K
Philips and Osram only come in 4300K so if anyone claims they have different colors that are Philips or Osram, they are lying.
Yes I know there are other cheaper brands out there but a lot of them are listed as D3S/R and do not have the proper cutoff/light spread so they may not perform as well.
