If it's just a speaker issue let me know. I have stock speakers I just took out of a 13 I could let go cheap.

I don't know what you are talking about...I replaced(as MANY others have done) my 06 GT and my 08 GT500 Shaker HU to aftermarket and kept the stock speakers and there is a HUGE improvement!

I dunno, maybe there's something different about the Mustang but anytime I've listened to a car system w/o equalization I've found it irritating and fatiguing. Typically the front speakers will end up with a nice big fat peak in their response somewhere around 800 to 1200 Hz (due to the car doors) which makes everything sound honky and boxy, and multiple cancellations in the mid-bass which makes it thin and lifeless.

The HU's I installed have a MUCH higher ability for EQ, have a lot to play with! It just seems most problems with stock systems in these years came down to the HU. The OP wouldn't be in a lot for a basic model replacement HU. Search Crutchfield and spec the ones specifically for his car.

The HU's I installed have a MUCH higher ability for EQ,
not compared to what's in the factory HU; though those settings aren't user accessible. I giggle when I see a $1,000 A/V head unit with nothing more than a 7-band graphic EQ.
