Default Car Trailer Size

I知 looking at getting a car hauler for my mustang. The mustang is roughly 16ft long so how long of a trailer should I get? I知 looking at a 16ft trailer with a 2ft dove tail at the end. Will that work or should I get an 18ft trailer with a 2 ft dove tail? Thanks.

One thing about trailers, they never seem to be too big. I'd go with an 18 or even bigger.

I have 16+2 BigTex all steel bed and never had an issue with my 08 vert or my 77 trans-am, but 18+2 would give me more options.

Example is my DADs 66 GTO. The back really hangs off the end during trailering.

I do have a winch on the front in a alum box that takes 6-8 inch of floor space.

Any long trucks / cars hang off 18 ft trailers and not so much on the 20's. So what are your hauling plans is the question.

Good luck with your choice.

I have a 16 ft with no issues, $2300 delivered to my door. I installed the tool box, work lights, battery box and winch.

I will be using the trailer for moving every few years and for track days every month. Slickman and BlindGUYnAR, thanks for the food for thought and pictures. It gives me something to think about.

If you want the guys name who built mine, let me know. I don't know if he will deliver it to TX but he would ship it to you. He delivered it personally to my house. He was only 3 or so hours away from me. He has been doing this for over 30 years and they are all hand built and top quality.. When I'm hauling my car with my jeep, I hardly know its back there. My jeep is a V6 so, its not HP monster.

One more thing, he makes this so our cars can be on them and open the door without hitting the fender. Nice to have with a lowered car.

I got a top hat 16' trailer priced at $2400 with a two year warranty. I'm not sure how much more the 18' trailer would be so if the price is a lot more I might just stick with the 16' since it would work.

When I priced mine out, it was 1500 more to get there 20 ft. I felt the 16 will do me fine. Nice guy and does very nice work. So, all in it was $2300. I know he makes 12, 14, 16, 18, 20 and a 22. Then he goes into inclosed trailers.

Here's my 18'. Works great with removable fenders on both sides. Double 3500# torsion axles and dual brakes. Always get more than you think you need.
