Default 160 degree thermostat ?

I am thinking about replacing my thermostat with high quality and 160 degree one. Do you guys recommend it ? i live in NC, so its mostly hot, and i rarely drive that car in the winter anyway.

I also can't find it anywhere, where would i go about finding one that fits and comes with the gasket .

My thermostat isn't bad, but i just want one that runs cooler.

Thanks !

In my experience modern cars run better with the correct temp stat in them, the PCM is looking for the higher temps when it's adjusting fuel, spark etc.

I doubt it could hurt to try a 160 but I'm not sure there will be any benefit.

don't. modern engines are meant to run hotter. don't mess with the thermostat temp just because you think it's a keen thing to do. if you're not overheating you have no problem.

I have a 160, because that is what whipple ships with their HO kit or did. You aren't really going to run cooler unless you change your fan settings. Have your high speed fan come on at 190-195. I think mine is set at 190, so my head temps never get much over 200. My car normally runs 180-190 whiling moving, 170's if it's cool out. It never stays at 160, even when it's in the 30's outside.

A stock motor will hit 220 before the high speed fan cools it back down. Probably runs more efficiently at that temp or reduces emissions. It most certainly reduces power.

What oil are you using?

I'm surprised you don't have one already. It's pretty standard with FI to put in the lower temp thermostat. There maybe some tuning that need to be changed with the fans, adjusting high speed and low speed fans, but they can be adjusted with a handheld.

The purpose of the 160 is it helps prevent detonation, don't know why, but it does.

With my turbo and my KB, both came with low temp thermostats. Sure you don't have one already?
