Building NA Power on a 5.0
Gents,
It is obvious to me that game has changed since I had my 09 and I need a complete reeducation. (CAI's + Tune were gold on the 09's, apparently the CAI is now debatable, and where as wider throttle bodies were all poopooed on an 09 someone suggested them to me for a 5.0).
So, please, educate me
How does one go about adding NA power to a '14 5.0? Assume money isn't really an object but I am not about to buy a crate engine, and I feel no interest in doing work to the internals of my present engine. Everything else is fair game but NO FI. I do have 3.73s from the factory.
Just for kicks goal: I have a friend with a 08 Saleen S281 SC. He's real proud of his blower and is putting down 465 at the crank. Me putting out more power with a NA setup will cause him great anguish, which after driving a V6 and taking flak for it from him will give me great pleasure.

Replacing the top end and tuning should do it.
Boss heads, bigger cams, valve springs, boss intake manifold, 90mm throttle body, and one of the bigger CAIs and intake tube., long tubes should help on the backside. Other things like underdrive pulley, electric water pump, maybe meth injection... pretty much all the same stuff.

Boss or CJ intake, tune, longtubes. done.
Boss heads, aftermarket cams, and bigger throttle body if you're somehow dead set on more power N/A, but realize you'd be spending a LOT of money for small gains. The 302 as it is from the factory is really not leaving much else untapped and not on the table already. You're going to pretty much be resorting to full-on race car stuff to squeeze out a little more power.
For me, it's actually been one of the things that has discouraged me from modding my '13. I'd be best off just saving for a blower and be putting down GT500 power after that.

This car has plenty on the low end for me. It's the high end I find lacking. So for right now, Boss intake, CAI, TB, tune. Maybe LTs and a HF catted X in the near future.
It looks like alot of people have run the Boss intake with centrifugal FI with good success. If I wanted to at some point in the future, I could add a Vortech and have a crapload of fun. I imagine those same mods would support a Vortech really well.
If I was looking to stay strictly NA (which I likely will for the next few years, but down the road I might want FI) the CJ would be the easy choice. However, I have never heard of anyone using CJ with FI. Not that it can't work I have just never seen it done.
My question is this though- it seems like the boss manifold is designed to peak at 7300 RPM and the CJ 7800 RPM- both above the factory redline. Is it safe to run at those RPMs without building the engine? Or if I were to go there am I putting myself in serious risk of blowing the motor?
