Question odd steering problem

hi all,

I've been wrenching on my own cars for over 25 years, but my 06 v6 stang is doing something I've never seen.

When you turn the steering wheel, it takes a pretty good effort to get it started, then once you're into the turn it seems to ease up (though still feels stiff). It's the same going either direction.

I figured the pump was just going bad, so I slapped one in it last night and it is exactly the same.

Whatcha think? Needs a rack? Strut mounts going bad (although I don't see any evidence of the mounts being bad)? I know it needs tie rod ends, but it was too hot and too late for me to do those last night. I've had tie rods need replacing before, but it never felt like this, so I'm leaning toward the rack at this point.

thanks!

Default

Either a blockage in the line, low pump pressure (but it's new) or a bad rack.

You could pop the pressure line off the rack and star the car and see what kinda pressure your getting...very messy tho
