Default broke my e-brake cable

Fuuuuuu....

Parking on a hill today and i went to pull up the ebrake, and the cable snapped. No more ebrake. Anyone know how to fix this? Or what it would cost from a mechanic?

Also, is it safe to use R and 1st for slight hills until i get this fixed?

2007 GT btw. Thanks.

pretty common problem. you have to replace the full cable. not sure of a price tho.

your fine leaving it in gear for now. just don't roll too fast and accidentally bump start it!
if the hill is really steep, you may want to get a wheel chuck or something.

Thanks lethal dosage.

Yeah i talked to Ford today and they told me both cables would need to be replaced, to the tune of $400. I tried an NTB, and they wanted $475.

Think i better just bite the bullet with Ford here. Unless someone here knows how to fix it on the cheap.

There are stories of cars rolling on a steep hill. *highly* recommend wheel chocks until you can replace the cable..if you must park on hills

The cable on my 05 V6 snapped too. A local shop in Alhambra, CA only quoted me $80 for a new cable. I didn't ask for labor costs.. traded the car about a month later.

I'm not particular fond of my "E" brake on my '05. When I pull into the garage I have rubber stopper to let me know when I am in far enough. The right front tire goes up on a wee platform and hits the bumper. One day, "E" brake applied, I go out and open the garage door, only to find out the car had rolled backward! Now, I leave it in first and leave the "E" brake off. Seems like you need a lot of pull to make sure the "E" brake is on duty!

$475 is ridiculous. Call around. Where did it break at? I think I would buy a new one and do it myself for what seems like $400 if that's the best you can find.

I think it just broke near the handle, not with either of the rear cables. And i think Ford wants to replace both cables...

Do it yourself. I just did mine last week. I was all in at $273.77.

OEM parts list:

P/S REAR - BR3Z*2A635*B $64.50
D/S REAR - AR3Z*2A635*C $57.95
EBRAKE (INCLUDES NEW LEVER, MAIN LINE & JUNCTION) - 9R3Z*2780*B $151.32

It took me about 1.5 hours start to finish. If you do not have a lift add another hour. Please replace all 3 items. I chose to just replace the Lever etc. Once i installed the part i broke both the D/S & P/S lines. The install is straight forward with basic hand tools. I would also recommend you get a second pair of hands. Have them squeeze the rear lever to make it easy to get the rear cables into the junction. If you have any questions about it PM me.

So do I def need the new lever/main junction? If so, should I just go ahead and spring for the GT500 leather one? It's only like $50 more or something right?

Thanks for your help bro.
