T-5 hard to shift after acceleration runs..?
Hi Guys,
Well I had my rear end upgraded this year (Auburn LSD with 4.10s) and the shop did a great job....rear end is tight and traction/accelration is really improved. The car jumps off 2nd and 3rd gears now...friggin beautiful.
Anyway, since I had the work done (5k miles ago) I noticed that every time right after a hard acceleration runs the car is hard to engage the gears...so down shifting and up shifting just takes more grunt to get the gear engaged. In fact 5th gear is the hardest and I don't really know why. I'm wondering if I lost some fluid along the way but I didn't think they needed to pull the whole drive shaft to upgrade the gears (only the rear yoke/flange) so I'm not sure where it would have gone. No leaks detected.
However once I park the car for a few hours the tranny shifts great, just like normal. I was startign to wonder if it was heat or fluid related since this was the case. Has anyone else experience this before? I have 2006 4.0 with the T-5 and 72k miles on her now. I don't think tranny fluid has ever been changed since I got the car with 24k on it.
Thanks,
Tom

Hi BlueBeast,
Well I hope it's not the clutch already! Car has 72k on the stock clutch...and I haven't beat on her too bad. Only done 4 full burnouts in nearly 3 years.
Seems like the friction point is still in the same place and take up is as good as it always was, but maybe that's the way the hydraulic clutches are (i.e. they take up the clearance).
I could check the clutch lining through the inspection plate I suppose. For now my first move is going to be to change the T-5 fluid out for the Mobil1 ATF...see if that helps. Any other advice or experience anyone has would be welcome.
Thanks,
Tom

Thanks Ponyx,
I suppose that could be it. Any idea why it would start right after the rear end upgrade? I guess I didn't think they would mess with any of that stuff. Also how would I bleed that....similar to a brake line?
As far as the T-5 shifter....its stock so I didn't make any upgrades there (yet...got my eye on an mgw). The S197 sixers have T-5's and the 4.6L have the TR-3650.

It could be you are driving the car harder or that the engine/trans input is turning more RPMs compared to the stock gears creating more heat
I thought both the v6 and GT S197s received new trans due to a remote shifter linkage. Guess I got some research and reading to do.
