Default transmissions

I have an 05 gt and my shifter assembly has broken plastic that came out. I found someone on facebook who has one for a v6. my local ford dealer said there are 5 transmissions for a gt? anybody know if the v6 automatic will fit a v8 automatic?

I have always been under the impression the autos are the same. I have never heard about 5 tranny options for a GT. There was only one auto trans. Your fine.

Both 5R55S.
Same shifter in both. (cheap looking w/ sliding dust shield that falls apart)
Make sure the one you're buying has a good dust shield. Better get a pic of it.
Mine fell apart. Went with the TCI.

Essentially they are the same transmission. There are some internal differences according to my dealer staff. The 2005-10 input shafts are different between the two.

The major difference between the V6 and V8 automatic transmission is the bell housing. You can't swap between the two because they don't match up even if the internals are exactly the same.
