Default starting in 2nd

Hey guys, after about 6 months with my Mustang GT and not being able to get good launches, I noticed if I start in 2nd with the revs around 2k, the car seems to take off a lot faster. I tend to start in 2nd more for just a regular starts now too. Is it just my imagination, or is it quicker to launch this way and will it hurt anything like wear the trans or clutch quicker?

It might be quicker for you, but first is faster. As long as you aren't slipping the clutch too much I do not think you are hurting anything.

I use second all the time, but I have 4.10s and a lot more power.

I use 2nd most of the time. I only use 1st for hard launches and maybe when stopped on a hill. Like Simon said, as long as you don't let it slip too much, you're fine.

Starting in 2nd should be fine as has been stated but I just received my clutch pedal extenders and I have noticed that my shifts from first are alot less jerky now. The extenders move your clutch pad toward you about an inch and a half and man does it make a difference.

Not relevant to the topic much really but

I can back this up and agree as well, definatly worth the 50$

I used to miss the 1st to 2nd gear shift pretty often because my elbow would sometimes hit my seat on the 1-2 shift when trying to make it fast (or it was just awkward to pull from 1st to 2nd with stock seat position) clutch extender 5/5 star

Personally I wouldnt start in 2nd gear with my 3.31 gear ratio , and theres no way its faster anywhere below 40 mph.

OP what gears do you have that may make a huge difference, with 410s , 1st gear may be useless enough to make 2nd faster i suppose.
