Default Short shifter, which is best?

Which short shifter do you guys recommend for an 07GT? Looking for a good part at a good price.

Also, how hard is the install? Is this something I can do myself, or should I take it to a pro?

I think the general consensus will be MGW.

I've had a Steeda Tri-Ax since shortly after I bought my car, it performs well, shifts are short and precise, I have no complaints.

You'll need the car on jack stands for access under the car, other wise it's a fairly easy install.

I started out with a Hurst Billet/Plus...It was decent and I loved the way it looked but it started to get slop in it after a couple years and rattled a lot. Found somebody on ebay selling a fairly new Steeda Tri-Ax a couple months ago that I was able to get for $140. Definitely a lot better made than the Hurst but also trickier to get in. Apparently they intend for you to drop the driveshaft to install it, if you don't it has to go through the shifter hole in two pieces (body and front arm) and you have to reassemble it through the shifter hole which was a pain. A plus with it is that I was able to keep my chrome Hurst handle although for some reason the Tri-Ax uses 8mm mounting bolts for the shifter vs 3/8" bolts on the Hurst, so it does't fit exactly.

I drove a friend's GT with an MGW and I was disappointed with the way it felt (too notchy). I've heard that the Barton is probably the best on the market currently and that'll be my choice when I decide to upgrade from my stock shifter.

I realize Barton is in the running but I say general consensus because I've seen it asked other times and the response is in favor of MGW...

Best Short Throw

Even when not asked about...

Barton VS Hurst Shifter

Personally, I like my Tri-Ax but I've never had my hands on another aside from stock. I don't think MGW or Barton were choices when I bought my Tri-Ax in 2006.

Yeah, there were fewer choices of shifter in 2006 and the Steeda Tri-Ax was indeed the best one around at the time. The Barton is the newest kid on the block.

I'm wondering why no one has suggested the Rough shifter? Uses the stock **** but also keeps the stock height where a lot of the others are taller?

I was thinking of grabing this one

Is this a bad short throw??
