I saw the news article on this airbag manufacturer. Apparently it's a third party that makes airbags for many manufacturers. One guy was blind thanks to the folks who made these. So yeah, get 'em checked.

no matter what brand of car you buy, roughly half of it was made by third-party suppliers.

does anyone know for sure if they need to reflash the computer to do this recall? Obviously I can't have them do that.

no, the actual inflater canisters need to be replaced. besides, your car has a bunch of "computers," the one controlling your airbags is the restraints control module (RCM.) that tune you installed in your powertrain control module (PCM) has nothing to do with this.

Haha, was thinking the same thing. My appointment is Friday. I will be informing the service tech no test drives, no flashing, no BS I'll be standing watch the entire time. Nobody will be joy riding my car.

I have a covered toggle switch on my center console for my linelocks. My first thought was someone was going to flip it while test driving it. I need a sticker that says ejector seat, oil slick or smoke screen.

Has anyone been offered a loaner vehicle or does it really only take 30 minutes? I was going to ask for a long test drive of one of the new GT's. I only live a mile from the dealer, so I could just drive it home and tell the wife I traded it.

If you check the related documents regarding the recall on the NHTSA website, you will find a letter from Ford to the dealers stating that the reimbursement for labor on the job is .6 hour. Your time may vary. My dealer takes about that long to process the paperwork on just about anything.

Got my new airbag installed Friday. Was in and out in just over an hour. I watched over it all too. No free joys rides in my hot rod.

Hi moosestang,

As jz78817 mentioned and per the recall letter:

What will Ford and your dealer do?
Ford Motor Company has authorized your dealer to replace the driver airbag inflator free of charge (parts and labor).

It only took my dealer 30 minutes. I guess if you have the time you could take a test drive on a new stang and give us some feedback.
