So I received the letter for the recall. I call the dealership where the car was purchased to make an appointment as the letter stated. I was asked if the air bag light was on, to which I replied no it's not and then was told it was ok until the air bag light comes on.

Is this the norm or does this dealership not know what they're talking about?

I called another dealer to see if I get the same response but I had to leave a message. Just wondering if anyone else has gotten this response.

Your vehicle still needs to get the recall done, waykoolr. It’s ok while you wait on parts, but not ok to not have it done until the light comes on. Are they waiting on parts?

The first dealership I called didn't make an appointment, just asked if the air bag light was on and since it wasn't told me it didn't need to be done until the light does come on, which I didn't think was right.

I have a call into another dealership cause now I just don't feel good about the first one I called, I'm waiting for a call back.

I thought I'd ask here if anyone else got a response like this, it's the first I heard if the light isn't on, it doesn't need to be done.

the dealer is full of it. The flaw in the airbag inflator will not cause the RCM to put on the "airbag fault" light.

Just bought my 07 Shelby GT yesterday, it's build date is 05/07.
Guess I will be headed down to the Ford dealer tomorrow.

Thanks for the notice of recall...DRK

This.

Yet another scum bag bottom feeder dealership. I love Ford products, but detest their dealerships and it blows my mind that Ford allows this. It's disgraceful.

I understand, waykooljr. I'm happy to get this experience documented for you. If you'd like, PM me with your VIN, dealer, mileage, full name, and best daytime number.

www.safercar.gov/

If you go to the above site and follow the correct trail, you can get to the air bag recall notice, the letter Ford Motor Company sent to Ford dealerships, and other information. Be sure to look at the associated documents if you want to read the letter from Ford Motor Company to the dealerships.

I attempted to post a link directly to the letter, but it wouldn't work. Maybe because it's several layers down, or because I'm lousy with computers.

In short, if the VIN is in OASIS [as an affected vehicle-edit], the inflator needs to be replaced.
